Tips for your first class…..

Having doesn’t mean anything unless you know how to use it…

Hydrate!

This is one of the most important things to remember before your class but be conscious of not knocking back 3 litres of water immediately before class – you’ll spend more time on the loo.  Hydration begins 24 hours before class and a rough guide is around 2-3 litres of water per day once practicing Bikram yoga.

Food

Don’t eat any food for up to 2 hours prior to class.  If you’re absolutely starving maybe a bit of banana or something small.  We’ll have some organic energy bars at the studio which could tide you over.

Take Water with you into Class

Only water though.  Anything else may make you feel sick so stick to plain and simple water. If you forget your water – don’t worry we sell bottles at reception

Clothing

Stay away from cotton if possible, it retains moisture.  Moisture wicking clothing such as running shorts and leggings, mesh tops or just hot yoga shorts and bra.  It’s going to be hot and sweaty so less is best

Arrive Early

Get there at least 30 minutes before class so you can complete your registration form and get your very own membership card.  You can then have a look around and make yourself comfortable in the studio

What to Bring

Yoga Mat, Yoga Towel and Water – oh and a smile

Mats and towels will be there to hire for £1 if you don’t have one or forget yours.  We sell them too.

Expectations?

Have none, come with an open mind.  Expect nothing from yourself, your teacher and the class – stay open to everything

Sit down if you need to

This is very hard for some of us to accept.  Be respectful to yourself and to others.  Remind yourself you’re only goal is to stay in the room …..

1% right is 100% benefit

Stay in the Room

…. Even if you have to sit down for the full 90m minutes, you’ll still get maximum benefit for your body for today.  It can take 2-3 class for us to notice changes in our practice, maybe even longer for some so please don’t judge yourself.  Lose any pre conceived ideas of how you think you should be doing in class.  Just enjoy the moment.

Breathe

When you own your breath, nobody can steal your peace ….

As we age we lose the ability to breathe properly.  Teachers will constantly remind you how to breathe during class.  Breath is your best friend in the class – seems obvious, but you’ll see, your breathing may be the first thing to go when you start to push yourself.  In through the nose and out through the nose.

Teachers are there for you after class to answer any question

Rehydrate

Remember 3-4 litres of water per day.  Be careful not to drink too much, it is possible to over hydrate.  We sell electrolytes and coconut water – both perfect for rehydration

Come back soon!

After your first class, come back as soon as possible.  Your body will remember what to do and you’ll notice your 2nd class is much different than your first!

If it doesn’t challenge you it wont change you……………..
